Heart of the Lakes Triathlon (HOLT) is with out a doubt the most popular race in Minnesota. Not only is it the State Championship race, it hosts as many athletes as any other race. What sets it apart is tough to pinpoint but when you get there you feel it. Held in Pleasant Lake in Annandale, the 45 minute drive from MPLS brings you to a typical small Midwest town of 3000 residents. On race day however the population doubles with a 1000 athletes along with their family and friends. The event has something for everyone including two distances, a bike course that combines flat sections with gently rolling hills and one river valley hill. Once you hit the run you will have more aid stations than most half ironman distance races. There are 3 aid stations on the short course 2.5 mile course and there are 5 on the 5.3 mile run around the lake. Each one stocked with water, powerade, oranges, gel, and sponges! Just remember to sign up quickly as the race fills in a matter of days after the March 1st opening of registration. |
